Devotional 17

Noah did everything the Lord commanded

Read Genesis 6:22

Noah did everything the Lord commanded him, but one must wonder why? He didn’t have a church of fellow God-worshippers encouraging him, everyone likely thought he was a lunatic. But yet in Hebrews 11 we see the reason why.

Hebrews 11:7

7 By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.”

in faith and reverent fear of the Lord, he built the Ark. When God spoke Noah believed, trusted and obeyed his word. He trusted that if God says he is going to do something he will do it.

Decades before it came to pass Noah feared the Lord and obeyed his commands, when do you think the other men and women before flood began to fear God. Once the water reached their rooftops, when there was no higher hill to which they could flee to.

Fear of the Lord will do you no good once judgement has come. But if we, as Noah did, have faith concerning events yet unseen but decreed by God, like the day he has appointed when he will return to judge the living and the dead, we shall find ourselves a refuge to storm those waters of judgement

Listen to the wisdom of Solomon in the book of Proverbs.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”

To fear the Lord is to have a right view of him, to see him only as our friend, our saviour, though incredible aspects of who he is, is to fail to know him as he truly is. He is Lord of all, as well as saviour of all.

He is not just our best friend, but our king, he cares for us when we need comfort, he also directs and upholds entire galaxies. We must have respect the magnitude and awesomeness of our God. Not awesome like a 8 year old says about his father’s new dad joke. But to filled with awe, amazed at who our God is, and then happens when we behold just how mighty and powerful our God is

Do not neglect his love of the small things, likewise do not forget just how high and mighty he is.

Prayer:

“Father, we praise you because although you direct the very paths of the planets, you care deeply for us small insignificant creatures. What is man that you are mindful of him Lord? We are nothing, and you are Lord of all, grant us fear of you Lord, that we might trust and obey your words in faith just as Noah did. In Jesus name. Amen.”

We are nothing, and you are Lord of all, grant us fear of you Lord, that we might trust and obey your words in faith just as Noah did. In Jesus name. Amen.”
