In 1907, a group of Victorians came to Queensland and settled at Montrose in the Sixteen Mile Creek area. Among the group were members of the Church of Christ. They lived in tents until they erected mud houses for themselves. By May, when the first house was completed, that of Charles Gray, church services were commenced, and together with a Sunday School, continued in homes until 1916.
In 1908, church services were started in the home of S. C. Flett at Wombo. Occasionally, speakers from Toowoomba travelled out to assist these new causes.
In 1923, H. C. Spratt, the minister of the Roma Church of Christ, held services once a month at Wombo and in a hall at Sixteen Mile Creek. S. Vanham succeeded Mr Spratt and continued the meetings. People from all denominations attended the services at Sixteen Mile Creek and the hall was often full. Quite a few people were baptised into Christ in a water hole nearby – summer or winter made no difference. Churches services and Sunday School started to be held every week and continued in the hall until a chapel was built at Sixteen Mile Creek in 1939.
In 1947, a circuit was formed consisting of Wombo, Sixteen Mile Creek and Drillham. In 1958, the Wombo and Sixteen Mile Creek churches combined, holding services in the chapel that had been built at Wombo in 1949. The name of the area was changed to Hopeland in 1965.
In 1949, a church sponsored by the district circuit was established in Chinchilla. It met in the CWA rooms until a chapel was built in Canaga Street (cnr Villiers St) in 1951. The chapel was extended in 1969.
Due to the changing demographics of the area, the church at Hopeland was eventually closed at the end of 1993 and all worship services are now held in Chinchilla.
A Limited Hours Child Care Centre was commenced in the church hall in 1993 jointly funded by the Commonwealth and State Governments and under the sponsorship of Churches of Christ Care.
A new Long Day Care Centre was built in 2003 on the property next door to the church, in Villiers Street.
In 2011 significant renovations took place to the chapel to accommodate the growth of the congregation.
